Borstal school inmates to get the taste of education

KOCHI: The district panchayat and various agencies including the literacy mission would initiate various programmes to impart education to the inmates of the Borstal school near Kakkanad. As part of the initiative to transform the inmates to responsible citizens, the authorities would conduct a ‘praveshanotsavam’ (initiation festival) by the end of June.
The programme would have the district literacy mission conducting classes for the inmates while the information and public relations department would exhibit documentaries on famous personalities. Along with this the panchayat would turn the classroom in the school into a smart classroom. The authorities would also initiate rain harvesting at the building.
The team from district panchayat visited the school on Saturday where the accused in various cases are housed, and discussed the development programmes with the jail officials. The team led by district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnapilly also asked the jail authorities to submit a detailed report on the activities that could be carried out here.
